A Brief History of the Land
| 1980s | Land moves from publicly held crown land into private realm with a land
swap between Marathon Realty (Canadian Pacific Railways subsidiary) and
provincial government. Province gains lands in False Creek area of
Vancouver which will be future site of Expo 86. Land is logged by Pacific Forest Products Ltd, another subsidiary of CP. By mid-1990's, camp becomes a corporate retreat for VPs. Logging wanes. |
| 1997 | CP begins selling off subsidiaries including Pacific Forest Products Ltd. In Dec. TimberWest Forest Products acquires all 124,000 hectares of Pacific's private timberlands including these 6000 acres. Resumes full-scale logging. |
| 2001 | TimberWest puts land up for sale. Lafarge Ltd buys its gravel pit site, silt ponds and some land (200 acres total) and mining rights to two further parcels of land. Logging rights on latter remain with TimberWest. Late in year, hear rumors land has been sold to a consortium of hockey players. |
| 2002 | Learn through press, land sold to Pacific Northwoods Resources Ltd for $11.5 million and how they will develop it. Malloch Logging takes over timber havesting. Clear cuts in Sechelt Inlet. |
| 2003 | Begins clear cutting mountain side across from Egmont. Community approaches Malloch with concerns and told "it is private land and we will do as we please." |
